Riff Roasters

Coffee. Composed.

In music, a riff is the short and usually repeating pattern of notes in a song. Hum the first few bars to "Smoke on the Water.”

That’s the riff.

At Riff Roasters, telling the story of the coffee bean in flavor notes is like writing a melodic, memorable, and familiar song. It takes time, energy, and the right instruments to create something light years from bland and benign. In the right hands, roasting is an art form and a science experiment. A shot of coffee is swimming with complex compounds that make up its intricate profile of taste, aroma, mouth feel, and body. It’s the art and science of coffee.

It’s coffee, composed.

Moka-Java Espresso Blend

By 1960, John Coltrane had tried to quit the Miles Davis Quintet; the stage was getting small for two such fiery performers. But when Davis couldn’t find a suitable replacement on saxophone for his European tour, “Trane” agreed to join him one last time. Coletrane pushed the boundaries, laying down “sheets of sound” over the familiar tones of the Davis Quintet. Every blast from Coltrane’s tenor sax was matched by Miles' trumpet, resulting in a blend of tension, passion, and familiarity.

We were inspired to blend our Moka-Java Espresso using a balanced mixture of African and Indonesian beans that are boldly dynamic yet complementary.  Notes (♫) of cocoa, blackberry, and caramel create an eye-opening shot for a morning cappuccino or Americano.

Origin: Seasonal
Region: Various
Producer: Rotating

About the producer(s): For our espresso roast, we use a seasonal rotation of responsibly grown and harvested coffee beans cultivated by small producers of Arabica coffees from all over the world.

Tanzania - Peaberry

$12.00
Available Now!

Ziggy Stardust was the culmination of his creative influences: Art, music, fashion and of course, aliens. Few know that Ziggy Stardust was inspired by a real person and fellow musician, Vince Taylor. Bowie befriended Taylor after the latter had experienced a mental breakdown and believed that he was not only an alien but also a God. We were drawn to the characteristics of this Tanzanian Peaberry because of its bold familiarity but also its mysterious complexity.

We were inspired to roast our Tanzania Mbeya Peaberry to be  familiar yet otherworldly, just like Ziggy.
